But before creating our pillowcases, I spent months buying them everywhere, comparing, getting ripped off on "100% silk" that was actually polyester. So in this article, I'm sharing everything I wish someone had told me before: how to recognize a real silk pillowcase, and which one is truly worth it in 2026.

What I look for before buying (and you should too)

Here, there's nothing to complain about regarding quality: it's beautiful, carefully crafted, durable. My only criticism is the price. At over €90 a pillowcase, with sometimes limited sizes, many people give up when they just wanted an excellent pillowcase without paying for the name.

How to choose wisely, in 4 simple questions
1. Grade 6A, the only one that truly matters
The grade measures the length and regularity of the threads. 6A refers to threads from 1,000 to 1,300 meters without interruption: this is what gives that truly smooth surface, the one that doesn't tug at your hair. 2. Momme, the density of the silk

3. OEKO-TEX® certification, non-negotiable
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 guarantees the absence of harmful substances in the fabric. For something your face touches 8 hours a night, for me it's a minimum, not a bonus.
4. Silk or satin: the costly confusion
Satin is not a material, it's a weave. Most cheap "satin pillowcases" are made of polyester. It's shiny, but it has none of the properties of real silk. I explain everything in my silk vs. satin comparison.

It's not a beauty gadget, I promise. These are real physical properties that distinguish mulberry silk from cotton and satin.
For your hair
Cotton creates micro-frictions on each strand all night long: this damages the cuticle, causes breakage, and tangles. Mulberry silk, on the other hand, creates almost no friction: your hair glides, the fiber remains intact. Cotton absorbs everything it touches. Result: some of your serums and night creams end up in the fabric instead of staying on your skin. Silk does not absorb: your treatments work where you applied them, all night long.

The flame test is the most reliable: burn a thread. Real silk burns slowly, smells like burnt horn, and leaves a brittle grey ash. Polyester melts, sticks to fingers, and smells like plastic.
